If the dictionary is twice as big, it doesn't take twice as long to find the element, it takes (roughly) as much time. The "roughly" means that it actually does take a bit longer, it is amortized O (1).

WebJan 17, 2013 · When we are insert/lookup an key in a hash table, textbook said it is O (1) time. Yet, how is possible to have an O (1) lookup time?
